Non-NHS Services

Private/Non-NHS work

If you request work that is not provided for under the terms of the NHS Primary Care Services contract, your GP may be happy to undertake such work for you, but, as this is a private service, you will incur a charge for completion of your request and on some occasions, they may refuse to action the request. Our priority is NHS work. Non-NHS work is charged in line with British Medical Association Guidelines. We review our fees annually in line with recommendations made by the BMA.

Please email us with your request or drop a letter detailing your requirement, including any forms, into the practice. Our staff will contact you BEFORE the work is done to confirm that your GP is able to do the work requested and inform you of the charge payable.

Priority must be given to the immediate care of patients, which offered with the NHS activities. Due the increasing demand on our doctors, please allow at least 4 weeks for the work to be completed.

If your request is for a medical exam, you will be contacted directly with an appointment time and date.

As soon as your GP has completed your request, you will be informed. Please note that we only accept cash and payment must be made upon collection.

Examples of non-NHS services for which GPs can charge their own NHS patients are:

  • private medical insurance reports
  • holiday cancellation forms
  • letters requested by, or on behalf of ,the patient
  • private sick notes
  • medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)

Examples of non-NHS services for which GPs can charge other institutions are:

  • life assurance and income protection reports for insurance companies

  • medical reports for local authorities in connection with adoption and fostering
